Beach GuesthouseIf you want to take a walk on a cobblestone covered street, reminiscent of the past , south from here, just a few kilometers away from Beach Guesthouse Aquray, is situated the ancient city of Nesebar on Black Sea coast in Bulgarian. The city is unique in its splendour and location – an island connected to the mainland only by a narrow strip of land and in close proximity to the largest Black Sea resort in Bulgaria.
It is a one of the most prominent tourist destinations and seaports on the Black Sea in and outside of Bulgaria. Its abundance of historic buildings prompted UNESCO to include Nesebar in its list of World Heritage Sites in 1983. Nesebar is famous for its ancient history. The large number of churches are evidence for this.
It is thought to be one of the cities with the highest number of churches per capita. Whether built during the Byzantine, Bulgarian or Ottoman rule of the city, the churches of Nesebar represent the rich architectural heritage of the Eastern Orthodox world and illustrate the gradual development from Early Christian basilicas to medieval cross-domed churches. Some of the most impressive are: the Church of St Sophia or the Old Bishopric, the Basilica of the Holy Mother of God Eleusa, the Church of John the Baptist, the Church of St Stephen or the New Bishopric, the Church of St Theodore (13th century), the Church of St Paraskeva, the Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, the Church of Christ Pantocrator and many others.
Another emblematic building, a remnant from the Turkish era, is the ancient windmill. It is situated at the entrance of The Old City and is one of the sites that gives Nesebar it unforgettable appearance. To sum up, we strongly recommend you to visiting the city of Nesebar as a part of your holiday in Bulgaria
